Description of the Animal, Including Name
Male, black and white cat, 16 pounds, 6 years old named Charlie
Narrative Description of Incident
The cat flew from ELP to DFW and was fine upon arrival as was dog from another shipment. When the crew went to load the cat on the flight to PHL, they noticed he was not moving.
Narrative Description of Cause of the Incident
The necropsy report shows the diagnosis as:
“Lungs: pulmonary vascular congestion. Mild pulmonary edema.
Heart: Cardiomyopathy.
Liver: Hepatic centrilobular fibrosis. Hepatic and sinusoidal congestion.
Stubtle cellular changes are observed in the myocardium and the myocardial arterioles are thickened compatible with pre-existing cardiac disease. The mild pulmonary edema and centrilobular fibrosis in the liver are considered secondary to decrease in cardiac function.”
