Midwest Airlines - Pet Information

Does the airline allow pets: Yes

Midwest Airlines offers two options under our Premier Pet Program. Both require that you travel on the same flight as your pet. Both options also provide travel awards to your pet and give you the option of using Midwest Miles to pay for your pet's travel.

Does the airline allow pets as carry-on: Yes

Small dogs are allowed in the cabin when they are confined in an approved soft-sided carrier and stowed beneath the seat in front of you.

The fee for this service is $100.00 each way.

Does the airline allow pets as baggage: Yes

Midwest Airlines below-cabin option enables you to reserve a secure spot for your kenneled pet below the cockpit in a temperature controlled and pressurized pet compartment. Please read and follow the requirements for traveling with your pet as checked baggage below the cockpit.

Pets are carried in the lower forward compartment, which is temperature controlled and pressurized. Pets are kept in a separate compartment, safely away from baggage and other cargo. Both dogs and cats can be accommodated in this area.

  • Advanced reservations are mandatory and are on a first come, first served basis on domestic flights only.
  • Passengers must call the Midwest Airlines Contact Center at 800-452-2022 to make reservations for all pets traveling with their owner.
  • Fee for a pet traveling below the cockpit is $75 each way, regardless of any connections. These pets are not included in your checked baggage allowance.
  • Pets traveling below the cockpit cannot be accepted at curbside check-in.
  • Midwest does not accept pets for below cabin travel on our 328JET (32 seats).

Does airline allow pets as cargo: Yes

Please contact Midwest Airlines Cargo at least 24 hours in advance of your plans to ship an animal. The number of animals that can be accommodated on each aircraft is limited and some flights do not accept animals. When your pet is traveling unaccompanied, arrangements for transportation can be made through our Cargo Control Center at 800-892-6580, extension 5.

Does airline have an embargo: No

The temperature restrictions imposed by airfreight do not apply to passengers traveling with live animals as checked baggage.

Midwest reserves the right to place temporary embargoes on live animals as checked baggage in extreme temperature conditions. The temperature restrictions for air cargo shipments will be the guidelines used for enforcing a temporary embargo. Air cargo temperature restrictions apply to temperatures at the origin, destination or enroute transfers and are as follows:

  • Must not be above 85 degrees Fahrenheit or below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, the animal must be accompanied by a certificate/form/statement signed by the veterinarian stating the animal is acclimated to such temperatures.
  • If below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, the animal will not be accepted even with a statement of temperature acclimation signed by the veterinarian.

Notes

The Midwest Airlines Premier Pet Program not only rewards pets for their loyalty, but also their owners. By making Midwest your airline of choice, there are two ways your pet can fly for free:

Pets earn one free roundtrip for every three paid roundtrips (or six paid one-way trips) that they fly with their owners.

Midwest Miles members can redeem 15,000 Midwest Miles for a free roundtrip for a pet in the below-cabin Pet Compartment. Members can redeem 20,000 Midwest Miles for roundtrip travel under the seat in the passenger cabin if the pet meets the in-cabin requirements.

Airline Fees

In cabin: $100.00 each way.
Checked: $75.00 each way
