CO Flight #476 San Juan - Newark Dog - Doberman / 7 years old May 8, 2007 Male / Name: “Doc”

Narrative Description: Description of the Incident: The dog was traveling from San Juan to Newark. Upon arrival, it was found lying on the floor of the cargo bin deceased. He had chewed through several cable ties and bent / pushed open his kennel door and escaped his kennel during flight. There was no apparent cause of death.

Description of the Cause of the Incident: The customer consented to a necropsy which stated that “Histopathology concluded that changes in the heart were consistent with myocardial fibrosis and myocardial fiber degeneration….. it can suggest prior cardiac injury or some form of fibrosing cardiomyopathy.” The veterinarian’s statement also said that “stress may have been a factor”.

Description of any corrective action taken: None. The animal’s death was not transit-related and upon investigation, all procedures were followed.
