Cargo Incident Report # 0809-1 Type: Death Date of Incident: August 29, 2009 Location: SFO Routing: Atlanta – San Francisco Delta Flight 1065 AWB: 006 ATL 1727 4272 Shipper / Owner / Guardian: Redacted Consignee: Redacted Description of Animal: 3 year old English Bulldog, named “Gary” Description of Incident: The pet was found to be deceased during unloading at San Francisco. Further investigation revealed that the dog was on several topical medications and was also on oral Metacam® for pain. The health certificate did not disclose that the dog was medicated; it simply stated that the pet was “sufficiently healthy for shipment on this date.” The temperature at Atlanta and San Francisco were well within Delta’s limits. The aircraft’s cargo environmental control systems were tested and found to be operating normally. Cause of the Incident: Unknown. Permission to have a necropsy performed at Delta’s expense was denied by the pet’s owner. Corrective Action Taken: None. This pet was accepted and handled in accordance with DL policies and procedures.
