Narrative Description: Description of the Incident: The animal was traveling with another family dog from Guam to Washington, D.C. This dog died at the animal quarantine station while on a layover in Honolulu.
Description of the Cause of the Incident: The family reported that this dog had health problems including diabetes, and they feared that he could not make such a long trip. Continental asked for a necropsy to be performed to determine the cause of death, and it concluded that, â€œâ€¦the dog had severe underlying disease consistent with diabetes, chronic heart disease which is compounded by the diabetes and periodontal disease. In addition there is evidence of pylonephritis and ketoacidosis.â€
Description of any corrective action taken: None. The death was not transit related. The animal died of a pre-existing condition.
