February 2014 Airline Pet Travel Report

The February, 2014 Airline Pet Travel Report contains pet incidents for the month of December, 2013.

On United Airlines flight 724 from Honolulu, HI to Baltimore, MD, a male cat named Bogie escaped during loading in Honolulu, HI. United Airlines reported that while securing the latch of the crate, the cat escaped and has yet to be found. As a corrective measure to prevent this from happening again, HNL Cargo Manager has designated two rooms as “Pet Rooms” in the warehouse where all securing of kennels will occur.

On Untied Airlines flight 229 from Dulles, VA to San Diego, CA an 8 year-old parakeet named Birdie was lost. United Airlines reports that in Dulles, VA two parakeets were accepted in a small plastic crate, upon arrival in San Diego, CA the crate was empty. One of the birds was recovered, but the other is still missing. As a corrective measure they had everyone at the station will be reviewing live animal regulations.
