April 2020 Airline Pet Travel Report

February had two deaths, one with American Airlines and the other with Delta Airlines.

Delta was transporting a 12 week old Yorkshire Terrier from Columbus, OH to Los Angeles, CA with a stop in Atlanta, GA where the puppy arrived in Los Angeles, CA lethargic and unresponsive and pronounced deceased 25 minutes later at the veterinary hospital as efforts were made to revive him.

Due to the vagueness of the American Airlines Incident Report, it is unknown what kind of animal was in transport between Miami and Orlando on February 20th.

Delta and United Airlines each recorded 1 incident. Deaths fell sharply from 8 in 2024 to 3 in 2025, though the year closed on a somber note with the December death of Meli, a three-year-old Golden Retriever, on an Alaska Airlines flight in Seattle.
