October 2008 Airline Pet Travel Report

The October, 2008 Airline Pet Travel Report contains pet incidents for the month of August, 2008.

Northwest Airlines reports the loss of a cat, that was fond the next day. "Katya" was one of 4 cats checked from Seattle, WA to Chicago, IL, through Minneapolis, MN. Upon landing in Minneapolis, one of the kennels was discovered to be empty. The cat was returned to the owner with a chipped tooth and grease on its back.

Continental lists the deaths of two dogs during the month of August. It also notes that it transported 12,246 pets during this month.

A 2 year-old Great Pyrenees was found deceased upon arrival in Raleigh Durham, NC. on Continental flight #250 originating in Houston, TX. The necropsy indicated a pre-existing health condition and another dog traveling with the owner arrived safe.

A 10 year-old pug was found deceased upon arrival in Portland, OR on Continental Flight #1622 also originating in Houston, TX. The necropsy stated that the dog likely dies of "respiratory insufficiency, which is an inherent problem for brachiocephalic dogs."

Alaska Airlines reports the death of a 4 year-old French Bulldog arrived deceased in San Diego, CA. The report states that it was a natural death, but makes no mention of any of the details or if a necropsy was performed.
