Pet incidents for the month of December, 2005.

December closes out 2005 with a quiet month with only one loss.

Detail of the Incident

Delta Airlines, Loss - Cat: A cat escaped from its transport kennel while being transferred from the ramp to the cargo warehouse.

Discussion

The Delta loss was blamed on poor kennel design, but there was no mention of if Delta used zip ties to secure the kennel further. Delta stated that there was no visible signs of damage to the kennel. Delta did notify the Airport Police, Fire Department and other air carriers in an attempt to find the cat, as well as posting fliers at local kennels and veterinarians. Delta continues to be in contact with the cats owner.

Delta and United Airlines each recorded 1 incident. Deaths fell sharply from 8 in 2024 to 3 in 2025, though the year closed on a somber note with the December death of Meli, a three-year-old Golden Retriever, on an Alaska Airlines flight in Seattle.
