Concourse M (Midfield)
The new Concourse M, accessible by shuttle bus from Gate 13, also includes a pet relief area for passengers departing from this midfield concourse. This ensures service animals and traveling pets have access to relief facilities regardless of gate assignment.
Pre-Security (Landside)
Lower Level – East and West Sides
AUS provides landscaped and lighted outdoor dog walk areas located outside the lower level (baggage claim level) at both ends of the parking garage (east and west sides). These areas are accessible before going through security and are ideal for passengers arriving at the airport or those picking up travelers.

Pet Travel Policies at AUS
Important: Pets, including dogs and other animals, are not allowed inside the terminal per City of Austin Ordinance § 13-1-33, with the following exceptions: * Service animals assisting passengers with disabilities * Seeing-eye dogs for visually impaired travelers * Animals traveling via airline (checked or in-cabin) * Law enforcement animals on duty
Visitors who are not ticketed passengers may not bring pets inside the terminal, including baggage claim and ticketing areas, unless the animal qualifies under one of the above exceptions.
Tips for Traveling with Pets
- Contact your airline in advance to understand their pet travel policies
- Federal and state laws require a health certificate signed by a veterinarian for pets that fly
- Puppies and kittens must be at least 8 weeks old to travel
- Clearly label pet carriers with your name and contact information
- Use "Live Animal" stickers and directional arrows on kennels
- Do not leave food or water in dishes during travel to prevent spills
- Sedation is generally not advised due to unpredictable effects at altitude—consult your veterinarian
