Post-Security (Airside)

Walkway Between Gates 16 and 17

• The only airside service animal area at SJC is in the walkway between Gate 16 and Gate 17.
• SJC says its relief areas are both inside and outside the terminals. This post-security spot is the indoor option.
• Use this dog bathroom if you have already cleared TSA and want to avoid exiting and re-screening.

Pre-Security (Landside)

Terminal A

• Located outside Terminal A, north of ticketing.
• This is an outdoor relief area. It is a good stop before you check in or go through security.

Terminal B

• Located outside Terminal B, north of ticketing.
• This is an outdoor relief area. It is a good stop before you check in or go through security.

Amenities & Rules

• Supplies: The airport does not list specific amenities, such as waste bags, turf or sinks, for these pet relief areas.
• Water for pets: You can fill a water bowl at the water bottle filling stations near Gates 6, 8, 14, 15, 17, 24 and 32. Gate 17 is right next to the post-security relief area. Dropwater kiosks also dispense water for free.
• TSA screening for pets:
  • Bring your pet to the checkpoint in a hand-held travel carrier.
  • Take your pet out just before screening begins and place the empty carrier on the belt for X-ray.
  • Carry your pet through screening, or walk them through on a leash.
  • Return your pet to the carrier in the re-composure area, away from the checkpoint.
• Service animals:
  • You and your service animal will be screened by a walk-through metal detector. You may walk through together or lead the animal through separately on a leash.
  • If the detector alarms, you and your service animal will both receive additional screening, including a pat-down.
• Airline policies: In-cabin pet rules change often. Contact your airline directly for current requirements.
• Travel tip: Attach a luggage tag to your crate or carrier with your contact information and your pet's name.
