Des Moines Intl
Quick Location Summary
- Pre-Security (Landside): Outdoor fenced area near parking garage, north of skywalk
- Post-Security (Airside): No airside pet relief areas available
Pre-Security (Landside)
Parking Garage Area
The pet relief station is located outside the terminal by the parking garage, specifically north of the skywalk. This is a small, fenced outdoor area equipped with artificial turf and includes a decorative fake fire hydrant.
How to Find It: Exit the terminal and head toward the parking garage. Look for the designated pet relief area north of the elevated skywalk that connects the terminal to the garage.
Post-Security (Airside)
Des Moines International Airport does not have a post-security pet relief area. If your service animal or pet needs to relieve themselves after passing through security, you will need to exit the secure area and use the pre-security outdoor facility.
Important Pet Policies
- Carrier Requirement: All pets (excluding service animals) must remain in an approved pet carrier at all times while inside the terminal.
- Access Restrictions: Only ticketed passengers traveling with a pet or service animal are permitted to have animals in the airport.
- Airline Policies: Contact your specific airline for policies regarding pet travel in cargo or cabin, as well as associated fees.
- TSA Screening: Reach out to TSA for guidance on security screening procedures for pets and service animals.
Planning Your Visit
Since the only pet relief area is located outside the terminal pre-security, plan accordingly if you have a connecting flight or extended layover. Allow extra time to exit security, use the relief area, and return through the TSA checkpoint.
