Important Rules & Guidelines
Pet Carrier Requirements
- Non-service animals must remain in their pet carriers at all times when moving throughout the airport
- Pets may only be removed from carriers when using designated pet relief areas
- If not in a carrier, pets must be kept on a leash within 5 feet of their owner and under control
Safety Precautions
- NEVER take your animal on the escalator
- Use extra care when boarding trains, shuttles, or elevators
- Pets are not permitted in any food establishments on airport property
- Keep pets secured during TSA screening (carriers go through X-ray machines separately)
Airport Access Policy
Only service animals and pets traveling with ticketed passengers are permitted within the airport. Non-traveling pets should not be brought to TPA for meet-and-greets, as this can create safety concerns and interfere with working K9 units.
Additional Tips
- Contact your airline in advance regarding specific pet travel requirements, carrier dimensions, weight limits, and fees
- Allow extra time for TSA screening with your pet
- TSA may provide a private screening room for skittish animals during carrier inspection
- All pet relief areas include waste disposal supplies for your convenience
