Type: Injured Dog Date of Incident: October 1, 2010 Location: Seattle, WA Routing: Nashville, TN – Atlanta, GA – Seattle, WA – Fairbanks, AK AWB: 006-01677115 Shipper: Redacted Consignee/Owner: Redacted Description of Animal: 4 year old male Pit Bull Terrier, named “Dexter” Description of Incident: Dexter was accepted for transport on DL2148 on October 1, 2010, at Nashville, TN at 8:59 AM. The flight from Nashville to Atlanta was scheduled to depart at 10:46AM and left the gate early at 10:41AM; the flight arrived in Atlanta at 12:53PM which was a few minutes early of the scheduled time of 12:55PM. The animal was acceptance in accordance with Delta’s live animal handling procedures. The connecting flight from Atlanta to Seattle was scheduled for 3:00PM and an arrival of 5:29PM. The flight left the gate at 3:03PM and arrived to Seattle at 5:18PM. Upon arrival at Seattle, the cargo agent noticed that the animal was aggressive and anxious. The dog was bleeding around the mouth and face and had chewed the plastic rim from both the bottom and top areas of the kennel door. He had also chewed his water dish. He was taken to Five Corners Vet Hospital in Burien, WA for the self inflicted injuries. The Vet released the dog and advised that he was able to travel to his final destination, Fairbanks, Alaska. A letter from the owner stating that the dog did not like to fly was included in his acceptance paperwork. Dexter was transferred to Alaskan Airlines to continue his trip to final destination.
