Type of Incident: Death

Description of Animal: Breed: Dalmatian

Animal Name: Tripp

Description of Incident: Kennel arrived On F2639/24 to Gate 56B @ 1734. The kennel was loaded into a baggage cart around 1800. The runner was there to meet the flight upon arrival and didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. The runner reached the Cargo warehouse at 1815. Upon the arrival of the kennel at the Warehouse, the Lead agent on duty opened the cart that the kennel was loaded in and noticed that the Dog was unresponsive, cold and stiff. The MAC Supervisor on duty was notified by the Lead agent and then they contacted the Ramp CSM that was on duty to report the incident and to check with the offloading CC for any discrepancies noted during the plane’s arrival and download.

Cause of Incident: Preliminary Necropsy Report - Dated 6/26/2019 Examined is a 2684g, 8 week old, male, intact Dalmatian in good post mortem and reduced nutritional condition based on slightly prominent skeletal features and diminished subcutaneous and intracavitary adipose stores. Small amounts of yellow vomitus are caked on the tongue, lips, front paws, and left flank. There is scant liquid, bloody diarrhea on the rectum. The skeletal muscles are diffusely pale. There were numerous gross lesions suggesting coagulopathy and possibly inflammation within the intestinal tract; sepsis, infectious disease, and/or exposure (extreme temperatures) are viable differentials. Additionally, the patient was in thin body condition suggesting chronic negative energy balance. Microscopic evaluation is necessary and a final result will be published once it is completed (3-4 weeks).

Corrective Action Taken: unknown at this time
