September 2024 Airline Pet Travel Report
The September, 2024 Airline Pet Travel Report contains pet incidents for the month of July, 2024.
This month we had three incidents involving dogs: two deaths on Alaska Airlines and one death on Hawaiian Airlines.
Alaska Airlines Flight 360 from Seattle, Washington to Tampa, Florida had a death of a Havanese dog. The dog was discovered deceased inside its kennel at the baggage area in Tampa. The cause of the death is unknown, and no corrective actions have been reported at this time.
Alaska Airlines Flight 802 from Honolulu, Hawaii to Seattle, Washington, connecting to AS326 Seattle to Tampa, had a death of a Chihuahua mix dog. A ramp agent discovered the dog deceased inside its kennel upon arrival at Seattle. The dog’s cause of death is unknown. No corrective actions have been taken as the investigation is ongoing.
Hawaiian Airlines Flight 386 from Honolulu, Hawaii to Kahului, Maui, had a death of a French Bulldog named Panda. After pickup from Maui Cargo, the consignee reported that Panda had passed on the way to the vet. The airline confirmed that there were no delays or mechanical issues during the flight. Due to the animal’s breed being Brachycephalic, which can lead to increased risk of oxygenation issues, Hawaiian Airlines is reviewing its policy on accepting snub-nosed breeds on flights.
We extend our condolences to the pet owners involved in these incidents and are committed to working with airlines to ensure the safety of all animals during air travel.
Happy travels everyone, and remember to keep your pets safe and comfortable during flights!
