The March, 2025 Airline Pet Travel Report contains pet incidents for the month of January, 2025.

Only one incident was reported by airlines in January 2025 involving the loss of a dog during an overnight layover in Miami, Florida.
Dog Lost During Overnight Kenneling with American Airlines
On January 8, 2025, four rescue dogs—housed in three kennels—were tendered at the American Airlines Cargo Terminal in San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) by the Compassion Kind Foundation. The dogs were traveling to Tampa, Florida (TPA), with a scheduled connection in Miami (MIA), on flights AA1613 and AA2409. After arriving in Miami, the dogs were released to Pet Limo, a contracted overnight kennel service, before their continued journey the next day.
At 3:00 AM on January 9, American Airlines was notified that one of the dogs, named Luna, had escaped while her kennel was being cleaned. Despite being within a fenced enclosure, Luna managed to elude capture and ultimately escaped the premises.
Efforts to locate Luna have been ongoing. Pet Limo, with support from local authorities, has organized a search involving flyers, social media alerts, and outreach to law enforcement and animal services. There have been multiple sightings, but Luna has remained elusive as of the report filing.
This incident marks the first reported pet travel issue of 2025 and serves as a reminder of the importance of secure handling during layovers and third-party kennel services.
