About PetFlight

PetFlight.com was created after I tried to find information on flying with my yellow lab Brent. Information was inconsistent and hard to decipher. I even received different answers calling the same airline multiple times looking for information.

The goal of PetFlight.com is to provide information on traveling with your pet in a consistent format as well as information to help make the trip as safe as possible.

If you have any information to add or just want to comment on the site, please use the Contact Us page.

Brent Diagnosed with Cancer

As some of you may know, [Brent](/about/brent "The inspiration for PetFlight") is a Career Changed, Guide Dog for the Blind dog, that has been my full time pet since the spring of 2005. The inspiration for PetFlight, Brent is now approaching seven years old, but still leads a full life of sleeping, hiking, the occasional swim, and then more sleeping. A few weeks ago I noticed a bump on the tip of his tongue. It was not very big, just about the size of a small pea and was the same color of his tongue.

2025 Airline Pet Travel Summary

In 2025, U.S. airlines reported 8 pet-related air travel incidents — down 33% from the 12 recorded the prior year. The year's incidents spanned four carriers: Alaska Airlines led with 3 incidents, including 2 deaths, followed by American Airlines with 3 incidents including the year's only reported pet loss. Delta and United Airlines each recorded 1 incident. Deaths fell sharply from 8 in 2024 to 3 in 2025, though the year closed on a somber note with the December death of Meli, a three-year-old Golden Retriever, on an Alaska Airlines flight in Seattle.
