February 2010 Airline Pet Travel Report
Pet incidents for the month of December, 2009.
Delta reports the death of a two year-old English Bulldog named Bogart. Bogart arrived deceased in Atlanta, GA on an overnight flight form Los Angeles, CA. Twenty-three birds and two cats were also on the flight and arrived safely. A necropsy was performed and stated "findings noted in the heart are indicative of significant myocardial disease of an undetermined etiology and likely played a major contributory role in the sudden death of this animal".
American Airlines reports the death of an American Staffordshire Terrier names Smokey. Smokey was fond deceased in Paris, France from a flight originating in Dallas, TX. American indicates that all ventilation was functioning properly in the hold during the flight. A necropsy was performed and indicated that an "infectious illness" was the cause of death. No further information was provided.
Alaska Airlines reports the injury of a dog on a flight from Los Angeles, CA to Seattle, WA. The dog injured it's paws trying to escape its kennel. A good spot for a reminder to always make sure that the kennel door is secured to the kennel with zip ties.
