June 2010 Airline Pet Travel Report
Pet incidents for the month of April, 2010.
American Eagle (flying an American Airlines route) reports the death of an English Bulldog on a flight from Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Dallas, Texas. The results of the necropsy were not available at the time of the report. No additional information was given.
American Airlines reports the death of an English Bulldog named Tyler. When the dog was accepted for shipping, it appeared healthy, but was observed having difficulty breathing as it was being prepared for a connecting flight. Tyler was transported to an emergency vet clinic but died in route.
American Airlines also reports death of an American Bulldog named P-Kay on a flight from Chicago, Illinois to Frankfurt, Germany. P-Kay was found deceased upon unloading in Frankfort. No visible trauma was noticed. The results of the necropsy were not available at the time of the report.
Alaska Airlines reports the injury of a dog who injured itself escaping from its kennel. The dog was captured with only scrapes on its mouth and head.
Delta Airlines reports the death of three dogs. Two French Bulldogs and an English Bulldog. In all cases there were no issues found by Delta with the transport of the dogs, and the necropsy either indicated no cause or pre-existing medical conditions.
It is worth noting that all the dogs that perished during shipping this month were brachycephalic or short-nosed dogs.
