August 2014 Airline Pet Travel Report

The August, 2014 Airline Pet Travel Report contains pet incidents for the month of June, 2014.

Alaska Airlines reports the injury of three dogs and one cat. All four pets injured themselves trying to escape their kennels and one was able to get out, but was captured in the cargo hold.

American Airlines reports the death of a dog on a flight from Boston, MA to Las Angeles, CA stating the dog was deceased upon arrival, but provides no additional information.

Delta reports the death of a Guinea Pig named Oriloe between flights at Atalanta, GA. A necropsy was performed and inflammation of the lungs was found. There was no corrective action on Delta's part. Delta also reports the death of a 5 year-old Pug named Simba on a flight from Detroit, MI to Los Angeles, CA. A necropsy indicated that Simba dies of cardiopulmonary failure, which is a common cause of air travel deaths for short-nosed dogs.

SkyWest reports the self-inflicted injury of a dog upon arrival to Atlanta, GA.

United reports the self-injury of three dogs during the month of June. In all cases the pets were taken to a vet clinic and released.
